1997 F-150
I'm considering a chip for my 97 F-150 4.2l the Diablo chip seems to be the favorite on this board, and I was just wondering what advantages it had over the Superchips?
I have a manual tranny (prefer it over an auto anyday), so the shift points don't affect me. I'm looking for increased available power in both the low and high end. Top end speed or 1/4 mile times don't interest me, I just wan't to have the extra horses when I need them.
Also, I wan't to be able to switch programs from inside the truck. (i.e. I want the ability to switch between 87 and premium octain)
I've gotten good results from my K&N, litttle results from my Magna flow exaust. My next purchase is either going to be dual electric fans, or a chip.
Thanks for your help!
1. More agreesive tuning.
2. Diablo is more response to consumer needs (ie, tweaks).
3. Less expensive
4. Switch chip is FAR less expensive and has three positions.
5. Custom programming is less expensive and you're not required to pay a fee for each little change.
Superchips has the following advantages:
1. CARB (California Air Resources Board) exempt (non-custom code only)
2. If you have 91 octane for premium fuel, its less likely to cause "ping."
3. Larger dealer network.
4. More likely to remove speed limiter in some of the "tougher" ECUs (ie, Ranger, Explorer, Escape and a small number of cars/full size trucks).
