hey guys i think i need a tranny. is there a tranny out there
that will work other than the e40d. i dont do any towing with truck.
how hard is it to switch to 5 speed.
The 5 speed swap ended up being surprisingly simple. The EASIEST and cheapest thing would be to take it in for rebuild. The flat out CHEAPEST would be to drop it yourself and take it in for rebuild. Other options, get another tranny from salvage yard if they will guarantee it to run but it may go in 10 miles then back at square 1.
In answer to your question, I believe a 4R100 will work in it but is probably going to be more $$ than E4OD.

No write up yet. Working on one though. Check out the current thread "5 Speed Swap" on the same page as this thread. Should answer each question you just asked.
