I am having an extremely frustrating problem with my 2000 F-250 PSD. It starts hard or doesn't start after being shut off for an extended period of time (like overnight). This problem started in the winter; the truck would start if I plugged it in at night. I thought that it was the GPR/Glow plugs, so I changed the GPR and glow plugs. The problem has not gone away. So, now it is hot in Louisiana, and the truck still starts very hard, if at all, if I don't plug it in overnight. When I try to start it (if not plugged in), it cranks very slowly and kills the batteries, and then I have to jump it to get it going. When it does start, it runs rough for a block or so, and then it suddenly breaks loose and runs normally. If I plug it in, it starts normally, and the power is normal right away. When the truck starts, I see white to whitish-blue smoke from the tailpipe.
I noticed hard starting in the winter last year, and this winter, it was worse. Now the problem has continued into the summer. The truck has 150,000 miles on it and uses a bit of oil. It has recently had the high-pressure oil pump replaced.
I am sorry to say that it sounds like you may have poor compression. One thing that you may check is the oil in the HPOP reservoir to make sure it is within 1 inch of the plug but this will not explain why it starts better plugged in even in the summer.
EDIT: oh, and change that oil. Not being plugged in this time of year should not cause a slow crank and battery run down.
i have that same problem but mine will start now without being plugged in since i changed the gp's and relay i just cycle it a few times crank it over and catches but it will run rough for a few then take off . If i need to take off i just give her some pedel bring up the rpm's and it doesn't run rough anymore.

That is not right my friend. If you are happy with that then OK. Since you said "same problem" I suspect you are not happy with that. Myself, I have a modified truck that smokes more than I would like in the winter during cold startup. In the summer, no issues. Again, I have a modified truck so I may have to look at tuning.

No wasnt happy with that but i forgot to say i think i found the problem my ihop is leaking down due to A leaky hose so going to replace that and see . As for the engine its going to be replaced at the end of this year with a fresh rebuild and new injectors . But I never had the weak starting and battery problem either just the had start and rough running for a bit . Mine in also got a chip it is and if i put the chip on the high setting i have no problems .

You must have been hungry when you wrote this. Our trucks have HPOPs not IHOPS.
