Hi, i have a 76 f100 2wd short bed step side with a 514ci big block c6 trans. Im looking for some recommendations for the rear suspension. I plan on using the truck for street /strip use. Right now im just running a stock leaf spring suspension and it wont hook up at all. Any input on which direction to take would be appreciated. Thanks.
struts? on the rear? of a leaf spring car? huuuhhh???
traction bars will help a little but leaf spring cars will always be traction deficient on the drag strip, especially with sticky tires. I don't know what your plans are for the truck but if youre serious about drag racing it I'd switch it over to a 4 link.
I was thinking a four link or ladder bar setup but i didn't know which was the preferred setup. Also just wanted to know if there was anyone running a mono leaf setup on these trucks.
I haven't seen any mono leafs and I'm not sure they would work super well on a drag strip. I've only seen those on rat rods and stuff.
Ladder bars will help you hook up by reducing axle wrap. Switching to a softer spring can help by giving you more weight transfer to the rears. using a front shock with a stiffer rebound like 80/20's can help too, with your launch.
Of course, with all this new found traction AND the softer springs, youre gonna increase axle wrap, which will make it hop and hurt your 60'.
And thats why coilover springs are so popular on the rear of drag cars.
