Well i bought a truck today its a 82 f100 2wd 4spd with 300 i6 its a great truck especialy scince i only paid $100 for it, but it does have issues it seems like it dont have much power at all in 3rd gear and when i drove it home i was running 45 and 50mph and couldnt even get to 4th gear without it shaking me to death, its not miss firing or anything it actually runs as good as a brand new car but just no power any info would be helpful
Cool but aside from that it is currently straight piped right now but i would like to know what kind of muffler to put on this truck that would sound the best
You should start a new thread with your muffler questions, those with opinions that might
help you aren't gonna be looking for somebody asking for muffler opinions in a thread
entitled, "Got a new truck with problems."
DWV88, your truck sounds like it has the same problems mine did when I bought it (1981 F150 300-6). It was barely able to hold 55 in third and 4th was impossible unless I was going downhill.
The biggest problem on my truck was a huge vacuum leak on the spacer between the carb and the intake manifold (the one with the EGR valve attatched the front). Someone had overtightened a bolt and split the casting. Replacing that alone gave the truck a huge leap in power. Not saying you have the same specific problem, but definatly check for vacuum leaks. You can just spray around the carb and all the gaskets with carb cleaner or something and listen for the idle to change to find any leaks.
I also have a very recent post that has a number of pictures showing the vacuum lines after I replaced and re routed them (previous owners had them totaly incorrect). I posted alot of questions that were answerd also, maybe some of it will be helpfull since im assuming yours would be very similiar.
