Oil Pressure Issues.

Need some advice here. I've got an '04 PSD 6.0 w/ 125K or so. I just installed a RCD EGR delete kit, oil cooler rebuild kit w/ new HPOP screen, 4" Magnaflow turbo back exhaust, Dieselite coolant filter, all new oil/ fuel filters, oil changed and coolant flushed.

Whats happening is every once in a great while (one morning every 2-3 weeks) my oil pressure (factory gauge) will drop to zero suddenly and also illuminate the "check gauge" light. It only does it on the first trip out and when the truck is at idle for a few seconds. Its normal on startup and on the highway and begins this behavior once up to operating temp. If the pedal is pushed and I bring the RPM to 800 or more at a stop the guage immediately jumps back up to operating range and check gauge light goes out. When I shut it down, drop my kids at daycare and fire it back up to go to work it never comes back the rest of the day and will run normal for a couple weeks until it does it again. There are no "secondaries" ie: no audible difference in the engine or temperature climb. Everything else seems normal as far as engine operation except the gauge. It's also a RAPID dropoff on the gauge and a rapid bump back up to operating range once I'm above 800 RPM.

Electrical? Maybe a bad alt? Oil is right on the max mark on dipstick and still new. Any advice appreciated!

TIA,
Fungus

Check the wiring/connector on the oil pressure sending unit. They have known to give problems. Worst case scenario--take a manual oil pressure gauge and check it manually. If you really and truly loose engine oil presssure the truck will shut down because you won't have any oil going to your high pressure oil pump. It's like a built in safety feature of this motor.

Great. Hoping it wasn't a bigger problem! I'll check the connector.

Thanks!

Quick question for you Fungus - Was it the wiring or sending unit? I just did oil cooler and egr cooler and experience the same problem today. No difference in running of the truck so I knew the Oil Pressure was fine.
