Oil pressure problems

My truck has the original 360 engine in it, and twice in the last several weekks I have had the canaster portion of my oil filter blow off. The second time was with a brand new Fram filter. Although I have worked on engines for a number of years, I will be honest, I don't quite know where to start with this one. Could it be a clog of some type, and therfore the engine pressure pops the filter like a balloon? Any suggestions would be very appreciated!!

Check to make sure that your PCV valve is functioning. It is designed to prevent excessive pressure from building up in the crankcase.

Oil pressure problems

Chances are very good that the pressure-relief valve in your oil pump is shot. I have had this exact same thing happen before and a replacement of the oil pump solved the problem. There was a thread on here or perhaps in the FE engine forum about this, not very long ago. Good luck. The pump is not a fun thing to change while the motor is still in the truck, but it can be done, by jacking the motor a couple of inches off the mounts and putting blocks on the mounts to hold it there. Again, you might want to check the other threads for more complete info.

My thanks to all who replied. I had decided to start with the pump, so you make me feel better. I also appreciate the insite to making the pump change as I have never done it before. Stuff like this makes the Internet very useful.
