Had a bed full of wood and this massey on my uncles frickin' huge trailer , and I swear my truck ran AWESOME I think personally it runs better with a decent load I barely noticed it was back there!!.. oh and on a side note I have a strong raw fuel smell while driving and my idle is very choppy while cold for about 30 seconds .. GP,s working awesome is this a lift pump going bad?
nice! yeah these old girls like to grunt good dont they.i love the sound of the idi under a good load.man what a nice tone from that engine.
sounds like you have a fuel leak.your smelling fuel,and choppy idle.you'll find it.
rare,but check for it asap;
your lift pump diaphragm can rupture and fill your crank case.like i say,its rare but happens.you don't want this to be the problem so check your oil before next start up to be safe since obviously you didnt mention seeing the leak.
When I smelled fuel and had a rough idle it turned out to be a cracked injector line. Make sure you check for leaks before driving it to far, my whole engine bay got soaked in diesel from mine, lucky I didn't catch the truck on fire.
happend to me but my problem was the **** on the filter head, the one with the cone black plastic and puch on electrical connector. It pushed out the whole inside of the ****, unchecked fuel was blasting all over my passenger side head and exhaust manifold, looked like i was overheating but it was just fuel, i was happy to see it was the fuel. hahaha.
mine blew the restricted filter sensor insides out and was throwing unchecked fuel all over the passenger head and exhaust manifold. It was blowing white smoke all over the place and i thought i was overheating, i was glad to see it was only fuel. I had a spare filter head so i got out my trusty steel putty, rolled about an inch up into a ball and smushed it into the opening, sat for 25 minutes to make sure it set up all the way and took off. works so well, i still have it installed hahaha.
lmfao hahaha. It works!!! like magic putty! haha. The wife is off to a horse hoof trimming workshop this weekend so i have lots of time to remedy all the quick fixes. Man the things i can do with one uninterrupted day! hahaha.
My wife and kids are gone tomorrow as well... I got the whole day lined out for maintenance on the truck. While I am at it I need to finish my cold air injection and pull the radiator so I can install the fan shroud. Should be a good day in the shop with nobody here to bug me. This is my last weekend to get everything done before our trip in a week, going to be driving it about 1500 miles pulling an RV.
gonna get my body work going for paint soon. cant wait! haha.
Back on topic though, the other thing that had me thinking oif you are smelling fuel, check the IP for any leaks as well, diesel fumes nicely on the hot valley pan. lol
I'd love to add those to mine after driving my work's F800 with them, but I'm leery of drilling holes in my door.
BTW I towed for the first time a couple weeks ago...2-axle car trailer + my thunderbird...about 5500 lbs or so. Truck did pretty well although it was my first time towing so I wasn't really used to it.
yup west coast jrs I love em .. and there was a puddle of fuel under my engine today not awesome Ill have to do some inspecting.. but seriously I LOVE how my truck sounds holding speed under load oh man its undescribable how awesome it sounds
I was hauling 3/4" clear stone to a job today, my last weigh ticket was 3340 kgs. That works out to 7348 lbs, plus the weight of the truck etc on top of that. Not bad for an old truck huh?
