This has been driving me nuts since it started. I have a 1990 F250 7.5 460 4x4. Well last month the Switch to change the tanks from front to rear gave out. It will change but not very easy... You know how that is! Well, just a couple of days ago the fuel gauge started acting really weird. This I dont know what it is doing. I dont know if its acting this way due to the switch or what. But it has started showing E when you turn the key on. Even if it has a full tank it still shows Empty when the key is on. But, when the key is off the gauge shows 3/4 of a tank. Someone please help me out here.... It's making me crazy....
Any help is soo much appreciated!
Yes, it's in the switch. It not only switches power to the pumps, but also signal from the level senders. Somehow, yours is connecting power from the pumps to the sender circuit. Put in a replacement.
We replaced the fuel switched the other day. But the gas gauge still aint working.... Darn thing! We think the switch may have fried a wire or something .. maybe you can help me out here.. I pray so.. it has stumped us!
Thank You for helping me out on this delimma.
I had a problem a few months ago with my fuel selector switch. Mine was showing levels, but not sending fuel to the motor. When I went to the Ford dealer to get it (only place on earth that has them), it had a different plug pattern then the one that I took out. I had to manually figure out which wire went where. If I remember right the back of the new one looked something like this :
rear tank gauge rear tank pump
sending unit wire 12v hot
front tank gauge front tank pump
looking at the back of it. I might be switched around, but I know that the new design has different locations for the wires. The fuel pump worked when I put the plug into the new switch, but the gauges didn't. Double check your connections. If they are right, it is your fuel sending unit in the tank.
