My 93 F150 has some trouble getting into gear. Plenty of fluid and only 80,000 miles. Never been driven too hard or pulled any thing. I drop it into drive theres a delayed pause, then clunks into gear. Drives fine, shifts good, but when I punch it, it'll hesitate then take off. Some one recommended a shift kit, fluid flush, and filter. Does anyone know if these would help or what could be the cause of this?
If it's a throttle body injector set up (or even carb), the return arm from tranny to intake could be frozen. this will cause it to shift higher than norm and then of course "clunk" when it does shift due to higher rpm.
Ugly news is, you might have to drop the tranny to fix it as it is probably rusted at the tranny top. Try some rust-breaking oil like LPS sprayed at the rod's connection at the tranny, you might luck in.
If its a 93, then lubricant on the wiring harness to the tranny (MLPS and internal solenoid pack) will collect extra dust . There is no arm to the tranny. I have a 93 Bronco, and I am sure that all 93's are port injection.
I can look in my ATSG tranny manual in the troubleshooting section to see if this problem is addressed, but I am sure someone here can give a better answer----probably quicker too.
If its a 93 E40D, and you have done much towing at all, then you are due a torque converter replace due to slippage while in lockup. That was a very common problem for them. I had to do mine (have to drop the tranny). Replaced a rear main seal, torque converter & seal and did a Baumann shift kit. My tranny at 150K is doing fine and I am a little rough on it. It does some quirky things once in a while, but I easily live with that. To me its a truck, not a limo. I expect it to roll at whatever speed I command it to and use 4 gears plus lockup. It does that and I really like the tranny.
