Hope someone can help please. My 49 has original flathead 6 with 6 volt positive to ground. When I shut motor off, including key, battery is still drawing. I find this by pulling battery cable off and I still get an arcing. My guages seem to work fine, and seems to be indicating that it is charging well when it is running. Someone mentioned polarizing of generator or is this just a bad short somewhere?
No, if it is charging then it's ok - no need to polarize.
If you don't drive it for a few days does the battery go dead?
You may have a small short someplace. I might go around the truck with a short finder (about $3 at Harbor Freight) and see if anything is leaking.
If your truck is OEM, the only things hot powered (on then the ignition switch is off) are headlights, brake lights, parking lights, instrument lights, horns, cigarette lighter and courtesy light (if installed).
Check for optional equipment that you may not have thought about - engine compartment light that is on when the hood is up - door open and courtesy light on - illuminated cigarette lighter that is hot wired, etc.
Have you installed ANY non OEM electrical equipment? Radio (with a constant draw to keep the time and stations), etc?
if you have a fairly heavy current draw you might check the regulator., They sometimes "stick" and will run the battery down fairly quickly, but your amp meter usually shows a full discharge.
