Just recently bought a 2004 Ranger that came with a topper, one of my reasons to get into this truck was to use the back as a camping spot when going out on some trips. So having some low watt lights would be ideal for long nights where me and my girlfriend cant sleep.......
So I was thinking of setting up a battery/solar system so not to get into the engine's battery and accidently drain it. I figure a small solar panel installed on the top of the topper would do work good keeping a battery charged enough for what i need it for.
I looked through Summit and didn't see anything that struck me as the thing i want(most if not all are vehicle specific and not enough photo's to be sure that it would work).
Does anyone have something in mind that i would like?
Why not go to Lowe's or somewhere and buy those solar lights that people put along their sidewalks? They are not setup exactly for your application, but you could cannibalize them and you would have the lights, the battery and the solar panel all setup for each other. You could extend the wires to mount the solar panels outside, and then buy a cheap light fixture you like the looks of and mount it on the inside and put the LED's inside it.
I think you will have more options with the household type stuff instead of the automotive type lighting.
That would be one option, although i don't want to go through the whole demanteling those things and to rewire all those small solar panels together to then create a weather resistant case for. I want a some what professional look to it, like a 1'x2' solar panel and around 5 10" LED strips that.
I haven't gotten a chance to have a good walk through H. Depot or Lowes just yet to brainstorm on what I might find. Also not sure on those things you mention as when i see them at night they never really send off the light that i'm looking for. And the quality ones can go for a pretty penny.
This will be a slow project for me, as i don't want to rush into it. I'll keep my idea/build on this thread as i go along.
