ranger worries
I am doing some research before i buy my first vehicle. I want to get a ranger and want to find some info first.
What are teh most common problems associated with this truck and how are they id'd?? Also what are the best trans. and motors to look for?
What are the best axle ratios to look for and how are they id'd?

Depends on year, model, 4x4, 2x4, engine etc.
Might be easier if you told us what you are looking for and we can tell you what problems that particular truck may have had.
Overall a pretty solid truck regardless of what you get.

84-85 will have the 2.8 carbed V6.......good motor, though a little underpowered in stock form.
86-89 will have the 2.9 EFI v6.........good motor again, but cracked head issues.
90 will have the 2.9 or the 4.0........4.0 is a good engine with gobs more power than the 2.9, and far less cracked head issues.
