I was wanting to know if anybody knows of any problems with any of the Sport Tracs? I am looking at trading in a 04 Pontiac Aztek AWD on one an was just wondering what are all the questions I should ask bout it? Also how does the 2WD version of them do in the winter time?
I have an 05 2wd and have no complaints except the junk wranglers they put on it new.
I have hauled anything and everything I have ever wanted to. No issues with winter traction if you add weight. And I have gotten a steady 16mpg since it was new.
Had mine for about a year and love it. I sold my 98 F150 S.Cab 4x4 when I bought the Trac and I'm glad now I made the switch. Mine is a 4x4 though and like Jim it gets 16+/- mpg regularly. Make sure the transmission has been serviced since they are quite expensive to replace. The timing chain issues were cured way prior to 04 so you should be okay there. I doubt a 4x2 Trac will traverse the same inclimate conditions any 4x4 or AWD will but you'll like it I'm sure. There are a couple good Sport Trac websites to keep you straight too.
Last year I got into an accident and ended up having to replce the front sheet metal and then the fan clutgh as it was overheating. Things were good for a year but it started overheating again this week. I took it to the dealer and after checking the thermostat which was OK, the tech noticed that the air dam or deflector was missing, voiding my warranty so they could not do anymore work on it under warranty. They claim that the air dam is needed ot cool the radiator when the AC is running. I'm going to take it back to the garage that fixed the front end and they will replace the air dam for free and then I wil take it bakc to the dealer.
I was thinking it was the fan clutch again, as it seems eerily similar to it doing this last year. I don't see how this little air dam could be cuasing it to overheat. Any Ideas?
