Alright, this is what i got. 77 Ford Hi-Boy 4x4 with a 74 460, C-6 auto. These are the parts that I have laying around. Bellhousing, linkage, flywheel, manual trans, center driveshaft and crossmember from a 75 hi-boy with a 400. I also have the pedal assembly/column from a 76 hi-boy. Is this everything that I will need to swap out the auto and make the 77 a manual?? I also have a flywheel and starter from a 390 if I would need to use that instead?? Will the manual pedal assembly bolt right into the 77 with the auto??
Also, I read somewhere that when using a 400 bellhousing on a 460, the pilot bearing needs to go in the small hole deep inside the crank, or the bellhousing needs to be spaced back, otherwise there is clearance issues??
Please let me know of any other parts I will need. I'm trying to line everything up before I tear into the 77. I'd like to try and get this done in a day/weekend.
Alright, so from what I read, since the 74 460 is internally balanced, I would be better off using the flywheel and clutch from the 390 setup. Also, it does appear that the inside (small hole) in the back of the crank needs to be used for the pilot bushing.
Once this far along, can I use just a normal 460 manual starter?? Any particular throw out bearing?? Also what has everyone done for their linkage??
