Suspension is one area that I have yet to work on. A search through here and the articles didn't help much.
What are some pitfalls to avoid when doing suspension? Will the shocks unbolt or do they need to be cut? Should the springs be replaced? What brands do you guys use?
The truck: 1996 F150 SCLB 5.8 E4OD 4x4 all stock with 200k of somewhat rough miles.
usually shocks are one of the easier things to replace. They are held on with bolts at each end. Remove bolts, remove shock, fit new shock and bolt up. Soak the bolts well in a good penetrating fluid a couple of days before you do the job.
Have a look at Rancho and Bilstein,
No need to replace springs unless broken or truck is low at one corner.
