My dad currently went on a drive to the airport in his excursion (6.0 PSD) to pick up some family from out of town. On the way there it started to over heat and an error code came up that said check gage and also the engine temp was high.
He turned it off and let it cool, then he opened the reservoir where you add the coolant, and nothing. he called AAA and they added 2 jugs of the Prestone all make all model coolant prediluted 50/50. when he drove it home it drove good.
Now i am thinking if i should take it to the dealer and have them remove the coolant and add the one that is specified in the manual (GOLD). Or if it is easy enough I can do it at home.
1st. thing your dad should do is find out how the coolant leaked out.
I'll go along with that. After that's all figured out and fixed, you should flush that stuff out of there and put the recommended coolant (or equivalent) in.
A search should turn up a few threads with the coolant flush procedure.
