I have and love my 87 6.9 and get 20 mpg hwy and about 16 city, but drive mostly hwy. Is there any thing I can modify to increase millage. Not complaining about 20 hwy but allways looking to improve. Truck is totaly stock with 277000 mi.
Depending what you use the truck for. If you use it for hauling a big trailer or heavy load (tools, etc) you will want to keep everything as is. If you use the truck simply for a family cruiser, you may want to think of putting on bigger tires - not the swampers or anything like that, just a size or 2 bigger.
Also, do everything you can to get it to breathe, both in and out. Keep after the air filter and you may also might think of synthetic oils. Keep the oil and fuel filters clean too. Do you use coolant system treatment? go to a cat dealer and ask for "Nalcool", it will help prevent cavitation erosion in the block, if its not too late.
Happy motoring.
