coil spring/camber/alignment
. I've been following the Show 'em thread and need some input on coil spring/camber/alignment.
To start with I have a 1984 F150 Flareside, 2wd, 4.9, automatic. I plan to "streetrod" this thing in due time, but for the meantime I'm going to stick with the 4.9(it runs too good to get rid of).
So to the question- I took it to the alignment shop and had everything set to "spec" and it looks like it is set at too much camber(tops of the tires leaning out- don't know what it's called + or -). So is this "spec" for when the truck was new, before the springs settled(it has 150,000 on the ticker now) or is this much camber needed to get proper tire wear?
Not to mention it steers terrible. It's very touchy, but it seems to wander from one side to the other. I've already replaced the radius arm bushings and I beam bushings with new polyurethane. The only other thing I can think of is to replace the rag joint.
With this much camber, I was thinking of trying a set of Lightning springs as I wanted to lower the front a little anyway. If the springs lower it, it should take some of the camber out of it right?
Does anyone have any pics of our trucks with Lightning springs on it?.....Mike
A few weeks later I think it looks a little better (I think the springs have settled some) but Im not sure how much I should expect them to. I need to have new tires installed soon anyways so I planed to ask about it when I returned, but in the meantime can anyone say if that sounds correct for a stock setup ?
