4x4 problems

ok..i just bought an 88 ford bronco II and im not sure hot to engage the four wheel drive..i have tried shifting to 4 hi from park and nuetral both and cant get it to engage and the same with 4 lo...am i doing it wrong ? If im not doing it wrong any ideas on how to troubleshoot to find the problem? (this is my first 4x4) THANKS!!

I would imagine you have a manual lever to engage the Tcase, how do you know your not in 4wd? If no lights come on check the fuses for a blown one. Also, you most likely have auto hubs which need to be driven approx 10ft foreward in 4x4 to engage and 10ft in reverse to disengage.

Yes it does have a manual lever for shifting...the lights do come on saying its in 4 wheel drive and 4lo ....the reason i know its not engaging is because there is snow on the ground here...and only the back wheels are turning

Put the truck into 4hi and have someone look and see if the front driveshaft spins as you drive foreward, if it does and the front wheels aren't getting pwer you might need to replace your hubs, i would go with manual hubs(if they make them for the dana 28), they are more reliable and you know for sure if they are locked in or not.
