Talking to a friend today who says a friend of his found an old military rifle in a dumpster. Pretty rusty but mainly intact.
The barrel measures out at .30cal. but apparently no maker name anywhere and it is bolt action.
At the nose of the bolt there is a piece with about one inch dia, square cut threads and flats machined on both sides of the threads. When moved fully forward and rotated clockwise the threads on the bolt would engage with matching threads in the receiver, locking the bolt in place.
Stamped on the stock is "Quebec 08".
Any ideas what it might be?

Thanks to all for the good advice and the other link.
I am still astonished that, within a couple of minutes of posting an obsecure question, I had the answer back on FTE. Amazing.
