The '76 distributor has points and condenser.
Distributor | 1976 Ford F150 1/2 ton P/U 2WD 6 Cylinders B 4.9L 1BL OHV | AutoZone.com

You will need A DS2 Dist. Single Vacuum
The coil is different also, points/DS2.
A point Dist will not work. A point Dist will have a single wire and not the 3 wire plug. See photos in the auto zone link if you are not sure what you have.
After reading the auto zone web site it looks like 1976 had 2 six cylinder engines and both DS2 and point IGN systems.
The $79.99 one has a cap and rotor, no core charge.

Yo Lariat! Tons of great info. Reps given. Wish I had this info a couple years ago, but the I6 is now gone, being replaced with a 408 Stroker. Thanks for taking the time to post all that info.

The dist. that I took out of the '76 has the correct connector for the '81 wiring harness.

...and thank YOU for taking the time to give me a positive rep, Chief!

I'm very pleased that my older post is still helping people today!

Does the inside look like the center picture?

I have not pulled the cap on it but I went ahead and got the one from AutoZone since it was only $45. I figure I should go with the new stuff if it is that inexpensive and then I shouldn't have to worry about it. Thank you for all the info, it has been a tremendous help.

I am going to switch to the DS2 setup and I am wondering if my stock wiring harness in my 1985 F150 300ci straight 6 would work?

Look for a DS2 wiring harness from a 80-86 w/ a 300 and it will be easy.

I know im rehashing an old thread but im having issues with an 84 Bronco (basically an F-150 for this threads purpose) It was originally a 302-2v but now has a 351 Cleveland 2v. Its running the 2150 feedback Carburetor tagged E4TE, which has the wiring to the idle solenoid chewed up by rats.. Could that wire being chewed have anything to do with the vehicle running like garbage. It will barely idle, and bucks, surges and stumbles, not to mention backfires out the exhaust when driving...very very poor driveability not even road worthy.

I think the wiring has been retrofitted already as described earlier in this thread but im not sure. It has a Canister style coil with the horseshoe connector, a square aluminum ignition module on the drivers fenderwell, and a dizzy with a vacuum advance.

How can I tell for certain if the retrofit of the wiring/bypass of the computer has already been performed. If it turns out it has been done could I get away with just an earlier non feedback 2150 carburetor to potentially fix the driveability issue?

I still run a feedback carb and it runs fine with it, just unplug the solenoid on the carb.
But that is not to say you don't have a carb problem.

It sounds like you are running a DS2 IGN system so I would try a carb off an earlier year engine.

Im hoping I can just throw a different carb on it and call it good. The vehicle in question sat for who knows how long prior to me getting it. When I initially tried to get it to fire, the butterflies were stuck (rusted) shut. Im not too hopeful that a carb rebuild kit will fix the issues. Ill try a known good , used carb and see if that will remedy things.Likely save the carb thats on it for parts or for a core.
