I have a clicking noise between the cab and bed near the frame portion. It doesn't come on all time time. It sounds like when you were a kid and put playing cards in your spokes of your bike! What could it possibly be???
drivers side between bed and cab lower portion near frame. Does it during motion but is not the u joint. Sounds like a plastic gear or similar. My truck is a 2005 F-150 regular cab 4.2L, 2 wheel drive, 95,000 miles. doesn't do it every time i drive it. speed doesn't matter either nor does speeding up or slowing down. goes any at 30mph.
I don't remember the correct name for it, but it's the cab control unit that is mounted to the back of the cab behind the seat back. Since yours is a regular cab, you might be able to see it by moving the seat all the way forward. I don't know what all's in there, but there might be a relay that is chattering for some reason.
well that wasn't where the noise is coming from, it is coming from outside the cab. does this truck have an internal or external fuel pump. And where is it located. I do notice now that when i hear this sound fuel seems to be used faster.

I was away for a few days and I see no one else has helped out at all. All I can tell you is, the fuel pump is internal. If it wa external you would see it mounted along the frame rail with one fuel line going into it form the tank and another leaving it going toward the engine. I'm wondering if you might have gremlin living under your truck.
My experience with fuel pumps going bad in Ford trucks is that the unit (yes it's in the tank) starts making a loud (well, not LOUD, but definately noticable) whining/buzzing noise for some time before they fail. I had one last a couple years making the noise and another went out a month after the noise started. I don't THINK the sound you're describing is the fuel pump.
I read on this or another forum, something about a fuel control unit (something like that) that's under the bed near the differential. It's an electrical part but I don't know if it could make a noise or not.
Have you checked underneath the truck to be sure no debris is stuck anywhere? Like a twig/branch or trash or something?
Are there any codes? Usually there would be some codes related to the fuel system, but not always at the onset of the symptom. The Fuel Pump Control Module is located on the crossmember ahead of the spare tire and they are subject to rust and corrosion problems. Usually a P0191 code accompanies that part failing, but perhaps not before you've experienced the truck quitting running while warm and restarting after things cool down, usually a 1/2 hour or so. Fuel pump is in the tank. It is in the location that you say the noise is coming from. I would diagnose the fuel system for pressure and volume. As 60DRB said, a fuel pump will make more noise when it's on it's way out because it'll have to work harder to supply the necessary fuel.
