Projects I completed this weekend

I know how we all like pictures so i have added some from the projects i did this weekend...see my albums.

I started out by draining the old green coolant...followed Gooch's procedure for the most part....i let it flow with the garden hose for a long time both with the truck off and running....kept it going until i couldn't see anymore stuff/trash flowing out. I also took the bottle out to clean it up better....when i did i found some sort of metal clip inside (see album). maybe someone will know what it is.

After all the flushing i installed the new 192* T-stat and dieselsite housing. i used RTV. probably should have replaced the bolts. it looks like the old T-stat may have been a 203* because it looks exactly like the 203* i decided not to use.

While the RTV was setting up i took the time to remove the EBPS tube and clean the soot out. I followed Guzzles writeup. i found that doubling the weedwacker string and feeding it through the tube worked better for me. i would run it thru spin it with the cordless drill, blow it out and then spray with some electrical cleaner (all i had on hand). did this probably 10 times until it was clean. carefully cleaned the sensor, cleaned the mounting bracket opening, and the manifold connection also.

Once i got the old housing out of the upper hose i noticed the hose had a bad spot on the inside so i went back to the store and got the dual alternator hose.

Finished up the coolant filter install, added the new ELC (probaly should have just replaced the bottle) 4 gallons and a little over 2 gallons of distilled to top it off. oh...for those that have yet to complete this the little plug on the side of the water pump that you have to remove is a 5/16 or metric equivalent....the dieselsite directions say its 3/8.

Crunk her up and checked for leaks...went for a drive....checked for leaks....let her sit for a while and checked for leaks again....none so far

during the drive it sounded like the truck was running much more quiet. could be all in my head but i swear it was....maybe cleaning the tube helped or just getting that murky old coolant out helped...idk?

anyway....thanks to all those that help with the write-ups and other advice that i needed. you guys rock

Thanks....it really wasn't that hard. the hardest part was getting the threads to start on the manifold to get it back on....but still only took a couple of minutes if fiddling with it.

well i found a leak....luckily it's not at the pump or t-stat. the heater hose that i removed to install the flushing T is leaking. not sure yet if it's the hose or the clamp....it's a constant pressure clamp so i cant just tighten it up.

so how much coolant will i loose when i pull the hose to replace it?

do i just partially drain the system at the radiator drain and then pull the hose?

Try twisting the cap on a little tighter on the T fitting. Mine leaked a little there.

I didnt leave the T-fitting installed...i assume your talking about the flush-T whats leaking on mine is where the heater hose connects to the 90* fitting that connects to the engine. I got a better look at it this morning and it appears to be only the hose thats leaking and not the 90* fitting itself.

How much coolant will i loose when i replace the heater hose?

Will draining the raditator lower the level to where it wont run out of that hose when replaced?
