I just bought a 1999 F250 super duty w/ 123k miles, and it is in very nice condition. Just a couple of tiny scratchs and dents, nothing serious. I have been lusting after one of these for a long time. I am an old fart but very active, but I intend to really take good care of this truck. I need to know the oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter numbers, and I intend to change all of them so I know where I am. There was no jack with this either and I am trying to locate one so I can lower the spare. It looks to be the original and never used. Also, how do I determine the build date of the truck so I know whether I need early parts or later model parts?
This is an awsome site with a lot of very expert and experienced members.
Thanks,
Jim
So sorry about that. I have the 7.3 diesel and it runs like a top. I just want to increase my data list so I can take the best care of this truck and engine. I also forgot to say that it is a 4 X 4.
I have an original jack and tools from a wreck if needed pm me and we can work out how to get it to ya. I see you are from North West AR. I grew up in Hope, I love that part of the country.
I have been following this forum for a while and it seems that everyone is high on motorcraft filters. I definitely don't want fram. I appreciate any guidance I can get. I want to make sure that the turbo doesn't get dusted, it is very clean right now.
I understand you don't have the jack. A funky thing about these trucks is that while the jack is on the inside under the seat, the handles for it are on top of the radiator support. Have you checked there? Oh, and welcome to FTE!
Motorcraft filters work great. The FL1995 oil filter can usually be found for around $10. For the fuel filter, Motorcraft or Racor (which makes the motorcraft) are my favorites. The stock air box has been known to leak. Remove the lid off the air filter and inspect the inside of the tube going back to the turbo for any signs of dust. If it's dirty inside the tube, dirt is leaking past your filter and it's time to switch to a different filter assembly.
Welcome to FTE. Be sure to stop by down in the 99 - 03 7.3 diesel section.
The reason I ask about the handles is because they're all you need to lower the spare... I personally don't like the factory jack. I'm gonna get either a hydraulic bottle jack, or a compact floor jack one of these days. I also might look into getting a hydraulic jack off the newer Super-Duties... my dad has on on his '08 and it seems to be of similar size and shape as mine and looks like it even mounts that same. Let us know what you find...
Re: Jack handle. The jack handle is what I am trying to locate, so I can lower the spare. I have several nice hydraulic bottle jacks etc. I am trying to determine what type of fitting is hidden in the hole that the handle goes in to. I wish it was just a hex head and I could use a socket and extension.
So your handle is gone too? Weird... on my truck, the jack is inside under the seat and the handles are mounted to the top of the radiator support. Should be the same on your truck... the handles are all you need to lower the spare, anyways.
