I'am looking for the best comos for snow plowing, I'am working with a 79 F250 4x4 dana 60 front and rear and a tired 351 auto. I will be rebuilding the engine after the session, but have also thought of installing a front limited slip. Any thoughts???
I used to plow with my 79 F150. It has a 289 and a 4 speed manual trans. I did commercial plowing for several years with this truck, The only drawback was the slow reverse speed.
Your truck should work fine without adding any traction devices, I have open differentials with 4:10 gears. I believe the best thing you can add to your plowtruck is a set of tall, skinny, agressive, tires. I use B F Goodrich Mud terrains 33x9.5 and I never had a problem pushing snow.
As far as blades go I have been using an 8 foot meyers on front and a back blade with a seperate power unit ( I dont like using diverter valves for running the backblade ). I upgraded my alternator to a 100 amp unit and I use just one big 1100 cca commercial battery.
I saw a used setup for sale. It was an old Meyers unit. How can one tell if it would fit their truck? Are the setups made for any full-size? Maybe a little fab work? Thanks
