Help!! Can't start my Explorer.
I agree that I'm a fool, but now this is getting personal. 2000 Explorer with the Passive Theft system. I only have one key that came with the vehichle. I purchased a new key at the dealership and they cut the key, but the technician that programs it wasn't working that night. So, I go out today to head down and have my new key programmed and mistakenly try to use the new, unprogrammed key. Now I can't start the thing even with the original key.
I am sooooo screwed...
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
This was taken care of in two parts.
Part 1: If you inadvertantly try to use a non-programmed key and trigger a theft response from the anti-theft system, turn the ignition off and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then insert the good key, turn the ignition to the ON posistion and let it sit until the theft light goes out and then start the vehichle.
Nuff said on this one.
Part 2: If your 2000 Explorer is below 1/4 tank of fuel and you are parked backward on an incline of approximatley 45 degrees, roll your vehichle to level ground, wait 1 minute to let the fuel in the tank reach the pickup and then follow steps in Part 1. The pickup in these things is obviously in the rear of the tank and if you are low enough on fuel and parked so all the remaining fuel is in the front of the tank it won't start. There is not even enough fuel in the line to get an attempted start out of it.
So, in closing do two things. Pay attention when you go to start your truck and don't park backward on steep driveways with less than a 1/4 tank of gas.
Take care.
