Ok so i decided to put my radiator in the bed of my truck. Ive got a lightbar to put back there and was gonna put the radiator at an angle between the legs of the lightbar. Ive got a 16" electric fan to go with it. What im wondering is how well will this work? i figure with no radiator in the way of the grille more air will get the engine compartment plus i will still have a very cool radiatior in the bed. What im hoping for is the air that comes over the cap will come down and cool the radiator. What are the positives and negatives of this approach?
Btw its a 77 f250 Highboy with a 460.
It's going to work, but it's not worth it unless you have a reason to relocate. Sounds like a hassle, for minimal gain to me.
Sand racers put radiators up top or in the rear to keep them clean, and rear/ mid engine cars have lots of setups, but usually run the pipes all the way to a radiator in the front.
If you need to keep the engine bay cooler for some reason look into hoodliners, header wraps, etc.
You will need a high volume water pump to pump the water all the way to the back and then to the front. Not good for street use. Should not overheat because the metal piping running to the back will dissipate heat also.
