header gaskets

i would like to know why my header gaskets keep blowing. i just rebuild the engine about 3 months ago and i have had to replace them twice. every time it blows in a different place. all i have used is the paper ones, so i think that is the problem but i would like some advice.

header gaskets

Could be a few reasons. Cheap paper gaskets, uneven torque, misaligned gasket ports etc.. I use the paper type gaskets from hooker and will use nothing else. They port match perfectly to my edel heads. If they are misaligned to where only a small part of the gasket is making the seal it will soon blow out. Even torque is very important on FE heads as the bolts are vertical and so far apart. On my headers there is a space between the flange and the head as the port protrudes from the flange. You may not have this problem with your headers.

header gaskets

First of all make sure the ports on your headers match the ports on your heads. If you are running the stock truck head, chances are they match. If you are running Eldelbrock or CJ heads, chances are they don't match.

If the ports match, then check to make sure the gasket matches the head & header. Ratsmoker uses a Hooker header gasket, but there are two different ones for the two different port locations.

If everything matches, inspect your flange seals to make sure they are flat and free of defects.

Hope this helps
