wipers won't turn off????
Hi all, I POSTED THIS IN EXCURSION SECTION AS WELL BUT FIGURED SOMEONE HERE MIGHT HAVE AN IDEA??
STILL having issues w/ wipers. I figured since they would not go off in the off position switch was bad. Ordered a new switch/turn signal assembly. Put in in today, popped fuse back in & now they don't go off at all, in high speed position, & the rear wiper won't go off either??? I figured it would just have been a bad switch but now is weirder than ever!
Anyone have any ideas?? I have no clue how to to trouble shoot this one??
Help! Thanks!
JK

The wiper motors are powered anytime the keyswitch is on. This power goes through a cam switch that kills the power in the park position. The wiper switch on the dash just carries it through this park position, giving it power to keep going. They design it this way so you can turn the wiper switch off, but the motor will keep going to park the wipers.
So the most common problem would be the cam switch inside the motor. Another situation I have seen this occur is when I have been experimenting with the wiper motor. With the wiper linkage disconnected, there is no load on on the motor, and even though there was no power from the dash switch to "carry it through" the park position, the motor coasted through the park position and then picked power up again, so it would never stop.

Yes, they are separate motors, with their own individual cam switches inside. If you haven't had anything unusual going on lately(like a stereo installation or other wiring mods) you might want to check underneath the dash around the fuse box and the GEM module for any signs of water. There are a lot of trucks around your year that develop minor windshield leaks, and the water runs down the inside of the firewall and runs into the fuse box and the GEM module. I believe your year model has the GEM controlling part of the wiper functions.
