Help

I have a 1990 F-350 with the 7.3 IDI, and unfortunately with over 800,000 miles on it, I finally blew the engine. I found a 1994 Ford F-350, with the 7.3 DIT, and was wondering could I use that engine? What additional parts, if any would I need to replace, or add? Thanks.

You would need the complete Power Stroke engine with all sensors, actuators and computers and the under hood wiring harness. Probably need the dash out of the donor as well along with the engine mounts I would think and the exhaust system.
However it should bolt up to your trans.
Hopefully other opinions to follow.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...p-started.html Have a read here. This guy is swapping in a Power Stroke but had a gas engine originally.
If you could come up with a decent IDI with a turbo it would be a straight bolt in with near the HP of a stock Power Stroke.
Having said all that it would be nice to have a Power Stroke in there and Midwest Dually is going to have one super truck.
Also you can replace all eight injectors in an IDI diesel for the price of one Power Stroke injector. The old IDI has some advantages.

I am preferential to the DI engines, from all that I understand, better con rods and stouter push rods. I would have to check all the specs again to be sure!

As for the mount up, everything I have learned about the differences between the IDI and DI, is that they are completely different engines with major differences. If you go that route, which you have my support, just as Lazy K stated you will have to take out most of your donor parts. I also want to say accell pedal too (as its sensor operated). All in all, its not a difficult swap! You would have way less to do then me! LOL!

Thank LK!

There is info from the guy who actually had the nuts to do the swap.
However if you are going the easy route with another IDI diesel then the 7.3 engines were from `88 to `941/2 with factory turbos from, I think, `93 up. However there are many aftermarket turbo kits for these engines and you may find a good engine with one fitted.
If you look a little bit down the main forum from this page, you will see the pre-power stroke IDI page, may be worth asking the guys there how much you might have to pay for a good IDI diesel.

Just make sure to grab everything you need like the PCM and IDM for the DI swap.

Be best if you could get the truck for all the parts till your done.

Hey guys, Thanks for all of the information and help, but I found a IDI for a reasonable price. Are there any suggestions for anything I need to check or change before I put it in my truck. I heard the engine run before it was taken out of the donor, and it sounds pretty damn solid. Thanks.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-question.html Here is a link to a thread from the IDI diesel page. Might be worth thinking of fitting new gaskets and O rings to the oil cooler before you put the engine in and check it for corrosion. Also plenty of info on the IDI page about these diesels.
