I am driving a 1992 Ranger 4x2 with five-speed manual transmission that my dad loaned me to use while my car is broken down. I'm not very familiar with the Rangers. I did a lot of driving in the rain and some mud the last couple of weeks, and now there is some squeaking noise from underneath when the clutch is let out when leaving a stop sign. Sometimes some kind of a vibration noise, also. It seems worse according to how much acceleration you use. Could the clutch be going out, or need adjustment? How do you adjust the clutch? Even before the noises, it seemed like it took more pressure than should be needed on the stick when shifting into first gear from a stop. Thanks for any ideas.
The clutch is self adjusting. Check the fluid level in the reservoir - it is on the engine side of the firewall between left fender and the power brake unit. If it is low, that could be sign of excess wear.
You may have gotten water on the clutch facing causing it to swell. Drive it for a few days and see if your noises and hard shifting clear up.
I suppose I should have asked this first - did the noises and difficult shifting problems exist before you drove thru the water and mud?
