The job market must really be different up North Rick. Down here we just don't see too many top notch painters who are unemployed, have all their own equipment and their own shop to paint in.

No clear coat, no buffing, and you need to own a building within 5 miles of my house. I bet this guy has just been covered up with offers.

 

I run into people like this on a daily basis. I install mantles on walls. These type of people will grab the illegal from home depot to frame their wall with used lumber from the shed. Have them do the drywall, float, tape,texture, and paint for 200 bucks. They then come to us to buy a 5,000 dollar sandstone mantle to put on said wall. I refuse to do the work on the first three trips on average. The customers get upset and I tell them to go find the guys that did the wall and make them fix it correctly. The finish is only as good as the prep. When I have been made to install on a sub par wall in the past, these people raise all kinds of hell and expect us to make the wall right for the money they paid us to put up the finish piece. They are unbelievable, and around every corner.

Years ago my dad and I helped a friend of mine paint his truck. He used to rub armorall on his paint to make it shine. We sanded the truck down and painted it the way he wanted it done. Plenty of short cuts were taken in prep. When it was painted, fisheyes appeared in places. We did everything he wanted and at no charge. He still complained about our painting.
