NO 4X4

help! i did the hub switch from auto to manual on my 04 f250 and now have no 4 wheel drive at all. i followed the instructions in one of the posts and it was easy. but now no 4x4. i used the warn like a lot of people suggested but it was never clear if you needed the conversion kit or not for my year truck so i didn't get it. i wonder if thats the problem. any help would be awesome.

yes. everything you read about these hubs online is conflicting itself. half of the places that sell it say you need the conversion kit but when you read the instructions on warns site, the conversion kit is for the 97s and earlier. its really baffling.

According to Warn's application guide, you want part number 11690 for the standard hub, or 38826 for the Premium hub. I don't think you should need anything other than that.

I've not done this, though.

Have you put the front on jack stands and tested the locks? Off the ground, the front axle should spin free of the wheel when unlocked, and should be locked to the wheel when locked.

If you put manual hubs in place of the auto's then you are going to have to turn the switch on the dash for the transfer case and manually turn your hubs.

Did you plug the vacumn lines going to the hubs?

yeah plugged the lines and got part # 11690. thanks for the replys just checked again as i'm doing other work and they engaged. either i didn't drive far enough in 4 earlier or i didn't have both wheels in lock. either way i feel pretty stupid but appreciate the help. on another subject, anyone have any advice on removing an oil dipstick tube. man is it stuck in there but good.

lots of pb blaster or wd-40. some have a retaining bolt as well. Why would you want to take that out?

it rusted at the bend so the dipstick doesn't go back in. it comes right out of the tube so its useless. i got a new one from ford. only 18 bucks. cheapest part i ever got from them. anyway they said it should just slip out and the new one slip in. of course the top of the old tube is gone due to it falling off at the rust spot so its almost impossible to reach whats left to grab it to get it out. real knuckle busted.
