Strange emblem?

If you decipher the engineering number C5GB 16098-A, it's supposed to fit a 65 Mercury Comet. Most truck engineering numbers would start as C5TB (5 =year) T is the truck symbol. The B is the engineering dept's way of differentiating between part number and engineering number. I didn't think the explorer models came out until 1967.

Strange emblem?

I agree, it's no pickup emblem for 65.

I didn't have the info on the numbers. But I thought it strange an Explorer emblem is was used on a Mercury Comet. Hhow the heck did it go from that to a truck? Wasn't this an option on the mid 70's trucks?
