ok so here is an enlarged shot of the inside of my left fender where the intake manifold is. i have had a clicking noise that i have been told may be an exhaust leak so this is where my quest has taken me... are there suppose to be bolts here?? it certainly looks that way.. there is also another smaller hole just like these on the right side in the same spot with what appears to be a missing bolt spot... any help/ideas??

Don't see any pics...

Assuming an earlier 2000's SD gasser, it's pretty common for the manifold bolts to rust and snap off. The real fun starts when the time comes to extract what's left from the block.

Aside from the missing pictures, rusting exhaust manifold studs (not bolts) is a pretty common issue in the early trucks.. Replace them with stainless steel studs or bolts to solve the issue.

this thread has a good pic. maybe i am just retarded (very probable) but the missing bolts/studs i am referring to are the two larger holes right above the red circle in the first picture in this thread. the holes are threaded so it looks like something should screw in there (the engine block??), please let me know... i am ultimately trying to solve the ticking/chattering sound my truck makes that is so common in these older superdutys, and i think i have it down to wither a valvetrain issue or an exhaust leak. my manifolds look pretty rusty (not as bad as the one in the pic, but close), so i think it may be that... please let me know

ok so i had a buddy look at it and he said that those dont affect the way the truck runs, they arent manifold studs, just empty threaded holes in the engine block. (approx. 4 or 5 inches above the headers, a few mm wide each) he didnt know what they were for, maybe to add performance/turbo/something after-market?? just glad im not missing any of those studs that are suck a b#$$# to replace, but i still got that damn clicking noise. at this point, im just gonna deal with it.
