It seems like there are a lot of tunes out there, but I can't figure out which would be best for me. My trucks a 5-speed and I'm probably going to put a lift on it (6" suspension) and bigger tires (maybe 37s). The most important thing is to get the BEST mileage I can get out of her and also want a power setting for when I take her off road/get stuck. All I tow is a 16 ft fish/ski boat and she already pulls it no prob, so don't really need any huge power increases. Don't plan on doing IIs or bigger turbo at the moment; maybe 17* hpop for overall better performance of engine.
So, do I only need a chip with like 2 settings? I know I need to get gauges first, they sound like a must and downpipe also.
Yes, you can get a chip with however many positions you want. There are sooo many different settings that people choose 4 or 6 usually to put on their chips but you can do it how you want. Gauges first, then downpipe, then pick your poison on the chip. All the custom tuners will do exactly what you want them to do. Just give them a call and talk to them. They will hear you out and suggest things you may not have thought of.
As far as gauges go, are mechanical better than electrical? It seems with mechanical there would be less to go wrong, but harder to install??
This might be a stupid question, but do all these gauges light up for nighttime driving? I was looking at this place called Alligator Performance. They seem to have a lot of gauges, but I don't know if they are a ripoff or not.

I think whatever you can get the best deal on, go for it. Yes, they should all light up whether they are autometers or Isspro's or whathaveyou. I have cruised Alligator Performance's website, Doesn't look too bad just make sure you get everything you need when buying something. So make sure you get all the wiring, senders, etc.
Lastly, no question is stupid. Ask and we will do our best to help.
