ive been noticing in my truck sometimes that it drives kind of wierd. it seems like i shifts at wierd times. i know some of it may be the gearing but i have to floor it almost to get it to get upand go. it has 3.55 LS so i guess thats to be suspected? but also when i give it gas sometimes its almost like it has a miss but not really. it kinda sputters and has a little bit of a deleyed reaction? what could this be? it accelerates kind of slow but again that may be the gearing?
What engine and transmission do you have? With 3.55 gears you should have no problems at all accelerating. When was the last tune-up and have you pulled the codes?
5.0 motor, 4 speed with overdrive tranny i think its the 4rwo7 or something? last tune up i have no idea. i bought this truck less than a week and a half ago. and what codes are you refering to?
it doesnt have that much of a problem with accceleration its just when im going down the road i'll be giving it gas sometimes and the truck will shake. not real bad or nothing but its noticeable. i dont know how to explain the feeling other than when ur driving a standard and u dont give it enough gas on take off it kinda shakes a little bit. not quite as bad though.
you have to keep that 302 around 2k to be in the power band, my truck has 3.08 gears and is a gutless wonder........
do a tune up !! seriously, i just did one and my shift points got alot better, not to mention my gas mileage increased about 4 or 5mpg in the city, and the truck perked up A LOT...but she's still a gutless wonder with my rearend
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, breather filter, PCV valve, change all the fluids including the transmission fluid.
It's a lot of work but on a new-to-you truck it's a good idea to assume those kinds of things haven't been done in a while. You might be really surprised at how much better it runs.
coudl the transmission be slipping? low tranny fluid maybe?
i thought mine was toast...was actually looking around for a rebuildable one to replace it with.....
i did a full tune up.....every filter, every fluid, brass cap and rotor, hot coil, and expensive plug wires, new plugs gapped at .55, and bump the timing to 14ish...
my tranny shifts like a new one now, i gained about 75 miles per fill up, and the truck drives like a spring chicken now instead of an old crow......
i still say gutless wonder because of the gear ratio in my rear end (3.08) but the difference is like night and day......
i think its a vacuum thing mainly with the tune up that causes the computer to act differently
forgot about the seafoam treatment, smoke the neighbors out and gain some mileage ! and loose a little ping !
well we took it to a mechanic yesterday to have it looked at and he said it was probably the stall converter/torque converter. he said he was putting it under a load and giving it gas and instead of it wanting to spin the tires it was losing power? ive only had it 13 days so far ad it had a 30 day warranty frrom the dealership we bought it from so were taking it down there today to have them take it to their garage and look at it. they told us if we found any major problems (drivetrain, engine, or tranny) that they would pay 25% and we pay 75% to have it fixed. not real sure but i think we got screwed on that deal. anyway were taking it and raising hell with them here later. i pay 6500 bucks for a 15 yr old truck it better run good.
what would you guys do as far as a new transmission? a whoel new tranny? rebuilt tranny? rebuild the existing tranny?
