Timing Issues
The truck is a 95 300 I6 17x,xxx miles. It's had a slight miss at idle since I bought it last year. I did a tune up and still had a miss at the idle. I put 89 octane in the tank and it was a little better, so I figured it was pinging/knocking and timing related. I checked the timing and it was jumping between 16 and 22 degrees at idle and held steady at about 15-16 degrees when I revved it up. I pulled the SPOUT connector, reset the timing to 10 degrees and plugged the SPOUT connector back in. With the connector back in, it jumps right back up to 16ish degrees and runs crappy again. With it unplugged, it runs like a champ at 10 degrees. What would cause the computer to keep advancing the timing? I'm thinking it may have to do with the knock sensor because it should be retarding the timing when it senses the ping and knocking, but what do i know..
