Is there any special(secret) way to get to the up pipe bolts and nuts to take them off while the motor is still in the truck? Also I don't have a hoist so it is either laying on the shop floor or going in from the top.
I am in the middle of an EGR delete and this step seems to be the most difficult.
Take the passanger side inner fender well out and you then can get to all the lower bolts with no problem. Just did this to my truck with no problems. You will have to take the passanger side front wheel off to get the fender well out.
if you are talking of the turbo down pipe it is a pia but can be done. Ya gotta pretty much lay over the engine and use a 7/16 wrench I think it is to loosen/tighten. It is a V clamp so has to be almost totally apart to remove. I had mine on a hoist and was a YO YO up and down but I finally got it figured out.
Soak em down with some pb blast or wd40. I used a few extensions to get up to em. Might be easier if u have the turbo out of the way but it's still a pia.
IIRC you have to take the turbo out. It's much easier and faster than trying to fight to get to the bolts and it will give you an opportunity to clean the turbo if it needs it.
remove turbo. pull pipe up from the top
to remove the pipe to maifold bolts use a stuby wrench and 16-18" long extension. go between the frame rail and the fender liner to access.
