Easiest way I think, and alot less wire than running it inside the cab
Andy, wouldn't the solenoid make it hot all the time?

bigric, I don't think a 38 amp alt. will handle it but it shouldn't be too hard to convert to at least 60 amps by changing the stator. The regulator should be the same.
Feed a relay (or 2 relays for 2 stage cooling) from the solenoid but control the relays from the cab. Manual or automatic or combination. Your choice.

Nope. I ran my fan from the side of the solenoid closest to battery and it comes on with key.
Ive used this in my truck, and got the idea from a maverick a friend has.

Actually, OEMs use it because cost of assembly is much faster and cheaper, especially on vehicles with the engine crammed against the radiator.

Instead of tensioning and putting on 5-6 belts, they slip on a serp. belt and viola, all done. No more warranty belt adjustments either once the vehicle was delivered. No more designing in adjusters for each component etc. Any VERY minute gains in H.P. was not the driving factor in the conversions.

Hrm.... serpentine belts.
I personally like them. I'm trying to make one for my 390... Its got power steering and a high mount alternator.
Any ideas?
