Hey fella's I got a question....I know if I looke enough I would find it somewhere but I decided to ask the experts first...Kinda lazy and getting sleepy? What is the GVW of a 1999-2001 F350 w/DRW's and 4x4?? Is it 12500 or I have seen it as high as 12900 or am I reading it wrong.. I know they say the GCVW is 20000?? I know one of you guys can tell me!! Thanks
I think that the 12,500 GVWR is only on the Chasis Cab Trucks. We have a '01 & '02 F350 PSD DRW Chasis Cab with 9' dump bodies that have the GVWR listed as 12,500 lbs.
Hey thanks for the quick reply's fellas..It's a good thing there wasn't a snake next to me because I did not even see the spec's to the right.....My bad thanks again
These numbers are one of those interesting questions like "why does a F350 SRW have 1100 lbs more capacity than an identical F250?" The chassis cab makes sense because it's not just a pickup with the bed removed. There's the straight rail frame and about twice as many springs in the rear (and probably other differences).
What doesn't make too much sense is the difference between identical F350 duallies depending on which engine you have. The only reason for the higher GVWR on the diesel that I can think of is because the diesel gets higher rated front springs. Yet, when you load up a pickup correctly, almost all the weight goes onto the rear axle which is the same on V10 or PSD trucks. My thoughts are that Ford gave the PSD truck a higher rating based on the higher front spring rating to make up for the 500 lb higher weight of the diesel (which ironically lowers your payload capacity by 500 lbs less than the V10 powered truck). That way the diesel truck doesn't have a significantly lower payload rating than the V10 truck, which is better for marketing purposes.
