I have '93 F-150 w/4.9-6 w/auto trans. Approx 220K miles. Well maintained, runs great, uses no oil. But it's acting up during shifting. As engines reaches shifting RPM, it acts like it labors to shift. Usual engine noise seems get higher pitch, w/some vibration while going into 2 higher gears. Does it mostly during 1st few minutes driving. Then smooths out and only does it occasionally.
Took to my Ford mechanic, you says he doesn't think it's the tranny. No idea what it might be. Anyone ever had same experience? What was it?
I would also check the fluid level and see if it smell burnt. How long has it been since the filter and fluid were changed? If you do this drain the torque convertor too. Do not have it flushed though.

There should be a rubber plug on the bottom of the bellhousing. Once that is removed you can access the drain plug on the torque convertor. You may have to bump the starter a couple times before you can see it.
