Shift Selenoid

1996 Ford Ranger Automatic 4 cylinder . Where is the shift selenoid located inside or outside the transmission.

Are you talking about the lock out one or the one that actually controls the shifting(Internal)

Thanks for the reply this showed up on my check engine light read out, Just trying to find out if i can do this myself, If its on the outside I probably can, on the inside probably not. The read out said P0761 . Has detected a mechanical fault with the solenoid energized valve stuck off. I have had trouble with over drive turning off and on while driving?

I think the kickdown solenoid maybe on the out side if that is the one that is wrong. I'll try to find a spec for your truck, have you asked this question in the forum that fits your truck, chances are there is someone in there that has had the same problem and you would get a more accurate suggestion than I could give.

I would suggest posting in the section for your truck as well. I'm no expert on your truck.
