Is this normal?
Got an 85 f150 w/351w in it. It's my first truck. The power steering pump has been leaking and whining quite a bit and even squeals when I get on the gas. I changed it out this past weekend, got the leaking stopped, but the thing still whines quite a bit. Just as loud as the bad one. Is this normal? It's really noticable inside the cab and annoys me. Am I too picky or is it supposed to whine? My uncle has an 82 with a 302 and I can't even hear pump whining when I drive it.

No, no. The old PS pump squealed. The new one doesn't.
As for Raptor01's question, It feels fine. It's not plugged cause the fluid was definately flowing through the whole system when I bled the PS system.
It actual works fine, it just whines loudly. I got the new pump at O'reilly's. Was that my mistake?

Most power steering pumps you buy are remans. There will usually be a disclaimer somewhere in the packaging stating that some noise is inevitible and normal. When I replaced mine on my 85 a month ago I had the same thing. What fixed it was replacing the fan belt and making sure it was tight. Quiet as can be now.
