Hey Fordies, There seems to be some confusion between the local parts stores. Is there an in-tank fuel pump on a 2002 f250 sd with the 7.3? Or just the frame rail mounted one? Blew the fuel pump fuse and suspect the pump may be drawing to many amps. All knowledge and opinions are welcome. Keep on Fording. Thx
Hey F-350-6, Thanks for the reply.
The glow plug does come on as normal when i turn the key, and the 20 amp fuse thats in the fuse panel below the steering column blew. One parts store shows only one fuel pump listed for the truck. The other parts store lists two. One hi-lift pump in the fuel tank and the frame rail mounted pump, which i believe is a high pressure pump. Seems to be running as normal since the fuse was replaced. Would have piece of mind as to the reason it blew. Don't want to be dead on a major highway in the pouring rain again. Thx again
well if it is like you state that it happened in the rain then I have a hypothetical answer for you.
first off just want to mention that the 20 amp fuel pump fuse is for the rail mounted fuel pump.
second, maybe you were splashing through a lot of water and it created a link to the positive and negative terminal on the fuel pump and fuse blew?
or your positive line is grounding some where before the pump?
