Angry '99 and broke

My first post so please be gentle. I have a '99 f250 LD 4x4, and as I've seen the imfamous 4r100. Ford says 3-4 are toast, but it will not even try to shift. I replaced solenoid body, no luck. Well I have 2 years and it is paid.

? do i replace w/ Phx Hard Parts myself or spend the extra for the JET? Anybody have suggestions? Wife said trade it in ! ? But then more payments. Thought about rebuild myself but Hard parts price is hard to beat.

Thanks for any help

I have never heard of Phoenix Hard Parts, so I can't give you a recommendation on them. I'd go with the aftermarket rebuild of your choice(research them as there are many), just make sure the installation facility (or whomever you buy it from) also has an additional warranty to ride on the warranty of the tranny. The standard is 12/12, see if you can go to 24/24 to help get it thru 'til you get it paid off. These warranties usualy only go along if the shop installs them. I'd keep the truck, as it is not that old, unless you forsee other problems.

I've heard nothing but good things about aftermarket performance rebuilders. I think, mainly, because they fix all of these trannies shortcommings. Shafts are strengthened, bands are upgraded, any weak spots are identified and a fix is engineered. They might not be as cheap as a factory Ford tranny, but you get your money's worth.

My experience is with a C6 installed in a '70 Mustang project car, not the E4OD/4R100, but I feel the same way regardless. When/if the auto dies in my truck, I'll go the performance tranny route immediately.

I have heard some horror stories about Phoenix HP and their warranty doesn't cover installation/removal labor. I know Roadmaster Transmission comes highly recommended. In addition to my Bronco I have a 93 GMC Typhoon with over 600 whp. Though my 700r4 wasn't built by them I know of several other owners of high powered Syclones/Typhoons that have had Roadmaster Trans. build their trannys and they are extremely happy with them. They just recently began selling their trannys on Ebay. I believe their seller name is "Roadmastertranz"

I just had my 4R100 rebuilt at a local tranny shop. They were well versed in the upgrades needed for my tranny. I got 1 yr 12k warranty and rebuild for $1500. They seemed to do a great job, and they put a shift kit in every one they build.
