I am looking to convert my 2-wheel-drive 1970 F-100 (302 w/C-4) to 4-wheel-drive, how difficult is this swap? My plan would be to find a donor truck and swap out the suspension parts, transfer case, drive shafts. Would there be other parts that need to be swapped out in doing this? Will I still be able to use the C-4 transmission I have now, and I currently have headers on my 302, does anyone know if these will still be ok with the 4wd?
I've put a 1/2 ton 2wd body on a 3/4 ton 4x4 chassis. The frame is little different (it curved down from the front end forward), so the front clip had a "spacer" to hold the body up to the right elevation. The cab was bolted to the frame on the inside of the frame on one, outside on the other. Very subtle differences, don't know if this would cause any problems with just installing a 4x4 frontend and etc...
I'm kinda curious about this too, I've got a 71 shortbed I'm building as a streetrod type truck. But it's parked next to my 69 Bronco on 35''s, and everytime I look at them side by side I think about how good the shorty would look with 4x4 and a mild lift with 35"s. Maybe I would try if I came across the right parts truck.
