New to this site, just bought a 1979 Ford F-350, I was courious to know what the best way to take off the trim, so I can paint the truck. I would like to reuse it
Dan, 1st off that is a gorgeous truck. Welcome to the site.
The trim is not too hard to take off. There are 11/32 nuts along the backside of the panels that need to be removed then it is just held on with clips that just pop off. Just take your time and once you see how its held in place you'll figure it out. Some of the nuts are a pain to reach but I had all mine off in less than an hour.
Dan.. If you are good at taping thats the easiest way. If your are going back with same color thats the way I do it. I tape the trim and roll the edge of tape down between the trim and body with thumb nail or plastic knife, looks like great cant see any flaws. Trim is easy to get off but can be pita to get back on
doors are easy there is a bolt in front and one in back of door , once those are loose trim just pops of plastic clips. The front of the rear trim ,as I recall has bolt in front thats hard to get to, got to get way up under there to get it loose, but try to slide it off first. The front part of the trim (thats bolted on) I think has a slot in the inside of trim, take a screw driver or door panel tool and silde it in beside trim and gently pry out ,once the back pops off, slide trim forward to find slot and front should pop off...
Hey thanks for the tips, I went a head and pulled the front off last night, I had to practically take the whole head light assembly out to get to that first nut. The other side went wuicker.
