A/C help, please

Hello, my name is Keith and this is my first post on FTE. First let me say that this is a great site that has really helped me out. I have been looking at this site for a couple of months, and have not needed to post due to topics being covered so well.

This is my first diesel truck and i love it. I use to drive a 97 f-250 diesel pulling a 35' dovetail for work and I fell in love. I would load that thing up with 10-15 40' I-beams and you could not tell that they were back there.

I have not modded my truck to much yet (just installed the 6637 filter)but I can feel the PMS starting.

Last week the I had the shop change the a/c compressor, dyer, and orphis (the compressor wore and metal shaving were in a/c). Also had the system flushed. The a/c worked great for three days in high heat 90-100% outside. Now it is just blowing hot air.

Question: I know that there is a sensor in the compressor that tells is to turn on and off, but if i replaced the hole compressor this should not be the issue, should it?

Could a piece of metal be blocking the orphis and cause it not to cool properly?

i plan on doing the heater core by-pass mod but wanted to make sure the a/c was working properly first.

Thanks for any help.

The clutch cycling (low pressure) switch is on the accumulator-drier and controls the a/c clutch on-off. The high pressure switch is on the line coming from the back of the a/c compressor. I have seen the high press switch pins and plug get loose and keep the clutch fom engaging. Since you just had the work done recently, I would let the shop look at it. It should be under warranty if it is something they replaced or worked on.

I wouldn't rule out a refrigerant leak somewhere either. An O-ring could have not seated properly during the install.

I have installed a NEW compressor before and a week later have the orifice tube plug up with new metal shavings from the new compressor. Not a big deal, but time consuming. Had to pull down the system, change the orifice tune and recharge, maybe had an hour into the whole job. They dont always get all the shavings out in the factory. I have also seen the pins come loose on the pressure switch by the compressor. My a/c kept cutting out one hot and humid morning and after 20 miles of tolerance I decided to see what was up. Just had to tap the wires and has been fine every since.

Thanks for the replies, I think that it is metal blocking the orphis, I decided to just bring it back to the shop since it should no cost me anything. I will keep you posted on this.

Thanks again

That's what I would have done, take it back.
You paid good money to get it fixed.
